Soulhood

Sorry for the delay in almost a week since my last posting! I have been extremely sick with bronchitis, an ear infection and a sinus infection – all at once! It hit me Sunday night and by Monday morning, I felt like death warmed over. Thank goodness for CVS Minute Clinic! Today is the first time I’ve been able to stay awake more than a few hours without being exhausted, so I thought I’d post some photographs from this weekend. I appreciate everyone wishing me well – I’m slowly feeling a little better. It’s going to take a few more days of being in bed to be at 100% again, but I’m grateful it’s better than earlier this week!

And now – onto the good stuff!  Brian Manigo is a new up-and-coming R&B/hip-hop artist who is looking at busting into the scene with his music. His new album, Soulhood, should be released soon. He writes, produces, and sings, among other things! Quite a talent! We met in downtown Columbia to photograph promotional shots early Saturday morning. We had a great time, and I was able to get some amazing photographs! Here is just a sample of the many shots we took!

The security guard inside this building downtown was nice enough to let me get a few shots in before we were officially kicked out. It’s ok – I’m willing to trespass for a good photo! (Until they tell me to go away… hehehe)

Every hip-hop artist needs a pretty girl to back him up! We found one, and took advantage of the awesome area around the house!:)

Quick Peek

I had a very busy weekend, and I want to show you everything I shot! Unfortunately, I’ve been in bed all day with a horrible cold.  I do want to give you a little peek of posts to come, however! Enjoy!

Houseguest

Last week, Otman rescued a beautiful husky/German shepherd mix dog from Bush River Road. It kept running into the road, nearly getting hit by multiple cars, and since Otman is an animal lover like me, he felt like he was responsible for saving this puppy. This dog was less than a year old, and not trained well. He had both a regular collar and a choke chain, but was not neutered or house trained. However, he did know the sit command. Sounds like his owners didn’t exactly have the best priorities. We took him in, took him to Petsmart and got him scanned, but he also has no microchip. I have never seen such a hyper dog! It took a good 20 minutes to get a clear picture of him! Dexter was happy and curious at first, but I think he stopped feeling it after a while. I’m sure jealousy had a lot to do with it, and it didn’t help that the dog bit Dexter over food aggression issues. I posted found ads on Craigslist, but no one has responded. We have given him to one of Otman’s friends with the understanding that if someone contacts us about this dog, he needs to give him to the owner. If you know anything, contact me!:)

Dexter is looking at me like, "I don't know about this guy...."

Dexter's expression here is priceless. It's of utter disdain. LOL.

A little shopping…

The thing about Gatlinburg is that there are hundreds of cute little shops that sell anything and everything you could possibly think of. I really loved how so many of the shops were locally owned, and the craftsmanship was handmade in many cases. I really wanted to get a laser-cut wood carving with our names and our wedding date on it, but the thing about quality, handmade goods is that they are quite costly, so I’ll pick one up next time around.:)  I did, however, find a few items that I picked up that I liked. (It’s very hard for me to resist anything that could make a good photo prop for the future!)

There was a store called the Earthbound Trading Company that had a great vibe, and sold many cultural items.  They had Indian saris, belly dancing costumes, African drums (which Otman really loved playing!), and a huge glass container of hermit crabs.  They were playing some great music in there that just made me want to shake my hips, so I had to pick up the CD! I also got some really beautifully decorated masks (photo prop!).

If you have ever been to my house, you know that I love to decorate my fridge with magnets. They’re the perfect useful souvenir! I admit I overdo it a little, but I don’t care.:)  I found three new magnets to add to my refrigerator collage:

Otman picked up some gorgeous candlesticks from the Kirkland’s outlet in Pigeon Forge. I can’t wait to rearrange some shelves and put them out! They have tiny sparkles in them…. I love shimmer and sparkles. I can’t help myself.

While we were at the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum, there was a photo booth in there, and although I knew the quality would be horrible, I just couldn’t resist squeezing in there with Otman and Dexter and taking some silly candids! (Yes, Dexter came into the museum with us! The guy at the ticket booth asked if Dexter was a service dog, and I replied, “Believe or Not, he is!”  LOL!) He is such a great dog.  Now don’t hate: I had NO makeup on, and we had been walking in the freezing cold snow for hours, so I don’t want you to be overwhelmed by my devastating beauty in these photos!

Oh yeah – and we got DOGGLES for Dexter.

Valentine’s Day Flowers

Otman and I got home from Tennessee late Sunday night, and I arrived at home to find some GORGEOUS flowers waiting for me on the kitchen table! He is so sweet! They smell so lovely and beautiful, and the colors are so vibrant.  I love fresh flowers in the home. They just seem to brighten up the entire space. Thank you sweetie!
