Busy Day

It was a crazy day today – the kind of day that makes you amped up with excitement, and fall asleep as soon as you hit the pillow. I photographed two family shoots, one in Columbia, SC and one in Greer, SC, and saw my family and friends today. A very full, blessed day – and I’m grateful.

Below is a photo I’ve been meaning to take for a few years now. This scene is on the way to my parents’ house from Greer, SC. I pass by these towers and every time I think, what a striking and beautiful site – I need to take a photo of this one day. Today became that day. I actually passed the scene, thought the same thought I’ve been thinking for years, and then looked at my passenger seat. In it was sitting my camera I had just used to take photos with on the latest photo shoot. I did a U-Turn, pulled into the median of the highway, rolled down my window, and shot this photo from my car.

This was one of the beautiful views we came across as we were driving from Los Angeles to Vegas on our vacation in March. It was so incredible. The photo does not do it justice. The way the cloud falls across the mountain looks like a fantasy world that I want to be a part of. How can people see beauty like this and not believe in a God? I am grateful I was able to see this and photograph it, and I am glad I’m able to share it with all of you!

I am absolutely in love with the photographs I am posting today. The island of Oahu is so diverse. One area is a bustling beach city with large amounts of tourist traffic and high-scale shops, but just a twenty minute car ride, and you are a world away. Every part of the island is a new gorgeous view.

Hawaii is known for its delicious pineapple. There is a huge Dole pineapple plant there, and, as you can see, fields and fields of pineapples for as far as the eye can see! The pineapple here is so sweet, with almost no acidity at all! We couldn’t get enough of it!!

There is something about the swirls and winding spiral patterns in the rocks that captivated me. The power and beauty of nature to create such exquisite designs is breathtaking.

If you look closely, you can see Otman filming the water crashing on the rocks! I was too much of a scaredy-cat to jump over the huge ravine that led to that cliff! Otman had no fear and I was afraid I was going to become a widow on my honeymoon! Thank goodness he was a careful daredevil!

The weather in Hawaii can change at the turn of a hat, giving warm raindrops and gentle thunderstorms. The strong trade wind is always blowing, so the storms never last long.

Different beaches in Hawaii have completely different cultures. Some beaches are full of tourists, some full of kayaks, some full of surfboards, and some full of all of the above!

You will never be on a more laid-back, friendly highway than in Hawaii. No one seems to be in a rush to get anywhere. This can be annoying if you are the one in a rush, however!

We were so blessed to have a wonderful guide take us around to some gorgeous spots on the island. He was so generous with his time, we won’t ever forget it. He took us to a shrimp shack that grows its own shrimp. IT IS SERIOUSLY THE BEST SHRIMP I HAVE EVER TASTED IN MY LIFE. Freshwater shrimp from Hawaii. Oh. My. Goodness.

He also owns a spa in Hawaii, and I took some pictures of his gorgeous business! If you know me, this is my weakness – gorgeous packaging, wonderful smells, and relaxing, soothing environment!

Bubble Boy.

A few weeks ago, Kim and little Michael came over for some quality time with “Aunt Teffy.” That’s me. We had a great time playing, laughing, and of course – taking pictures!

Michael is so awesome and sweet. I just want to squeeze him every time I see him! That can be dangerous, because my hugs are BEAR hugs! He doesn’t seem to mind, though.

We went out in my yard to play with some bubbles to celebrate the fantastic weather. The pollen was a little overwhelming, but it was a happy day because it just symbolizes the beauty of spring.

Saturday Weather in Greenville

Weather.com is a photographer’s best friend in sooooo many ways. I have to know what the weather will be like in order to plan the lighting, the equipment, and my shooting methods for the day. I hate cancelling sessions, and much prefer to improvise and choose different locations by being creative. I often come up with the best shots that way. The weather in Greenville on Saturday is looking to be perfect so far! Partly cloudy (to keep those harsh shadows away), and a nice 72 degrees! I’m excited!

I love Halloween. I think it’s the least stressful holiday of the year. Just buy candy, dress up and party! Everyone is in a good mood on Halloween, it seems. No stress about buying presents, flowers or chocolates, no worrying about cooking for hundreds of family members, and best of all, it’s in the FALL!!! My favorite season!!! I went downtown with my two favorite guys. Doesn’t Dexter look so handsome in his pumpkin costume?

Purple Flowers!

Do you see the bumblebee?

I have a creek that runs right behind my house, and I love when it rains, because the sound of the water flowing is so peaceful and soothing. When I get ready for work in the mornings, I usually go out on my deck to let my dog out and listen to it. I have some ivy that runs up the pillars on my deck, and yesterday everything was normal. This morning, I got out of bed, walked out on the deck, and discovered these gorgeous, beautiful purple flowers that grew all over the ivy and in my backyard OVERNIGHT! It was such a wonderful, sweet sight to wake up to, especially since it was such a surprise. I went inside and grabbed my camera to take some shots to remember the feeling of this morning. The rain was still misting down a little, but the air here in South Carolina is starting to cool down and be cooler and fresh in the mornings. The leaves and contrasting flowers were so pretty and bright against the cloudy sky, and everything was so quiet, because it was early and the neighbors were sleeping in. What a wonderful way to start off the day. As I was taking the pictures, believe it or not, a big, fuzzy bumblebee actually crawled into one of the fluted flowers for just a few seconds before flying away, and I was lucky enough to grab a shot!

Cookie had to appreciate the flowers, too!

Cool Zoo Birds

A little while back, my friend Michelle came to visit and we went with her son to the Riverbanks Zoo. They have a great area where you can have the opportunity to walk through the lorikeet aviary and buy nectar to feed the birds. The birds are so friendly and LOVE nectar!!! They literally fly up to you and drink it out of a little cup from your hand! I had 3 on me at one time, fighting each other for the nectar! Michelle, of course, being as seductive as she is, didn’t need any nectar!

It Landed Right on Her Head!!!
