My dad’s birthday is today, which also fell on Father’s Day this year. That’s perfect, because he’s the BEST FATHER EVER!
Here’s a list of just a few of the many ways my dad is awesome.
- Dad, I’m grateful that when I got my learner’s permit to drive, you made me change a tire on my car and know how to check my oil before letting me sit behind the wheel. You always did things like that to make sure I would be self-sufficient and capable.
- Dad, you always respect my privacy, and always did as I was growing up. I never had to worry about you going through my room or reading my diary. It really is a big deal, looking back now, at how that trust really was such a positive force in my life growing up.
- Dad, I remember almost every Saturday after our morning chores, when you would drive Jennifer and me around town and take us to little places like Taco Casa for some father-daughter time while Mom was at work.
- Dad, even though you grumbled and griped, you never stopped letting my friends hang out at our house (the “cool house”) after school and on the weekends every single day. I don’t think I would want my future kids to have 5 friends over almost every day. You put up with it and now my friends see you and Mom as their second set of parents, cause they grew up with you. 🙂
- Dad, one of my memories from early childhood is sitting in the dining room, learning basic math on the chalkboard easel we used to have set up in there. I remember this because as I was learning 10+10, you were trying to teach me algebra by putting an “x” in place of one of the numbers and trying to get me to figure out what x equaled. I have memories of that moment, and still remember how perplexed I was that you were trying to use letters when I was trying to add up numbers. 🙂 I love that memory, because it shows how you always tried to challenge us.
There are many more examples, but those are just 5 that popped into my head while I was writing this post. I know I’m blessed to have a dad that was always there for us, and still is.
I love you! I hope this is the best birthday yet!!!
