“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
—Howard Thurman
(1899-1981); Author, Philosopher, Theologian, Educator, Civil Rights Leader
This quote spoke to me in a profound way when I read it.
It is the principle upon how I invest all my spare time, energy and money on my love for photography and design, and it is what I encourage everyone I love to do.
Find your passion and do it. It’s okay to work a corporate job. No one (including me) can just drop everything and run off into the wilderness with a wild abandon without a plan. This is the real world, and we have responsibilities. But if you are doing WHAT YOU LOVE, even just a little bit each week, something changes inside. There is a certain peace inside that comes with knowing that you don’t need a billion-dollar corporation to determine your value and worth. There is a certain hunger that I believe lives in everyone to be able to rely on themselves. I believe this feeling is what America was built upon – this feeling of independence, resourcefulness, creativity, and personal pride in yourself and what you create and accomplish. To quote Howard Thurman again, you “have come alive.”
So, my extremely humble advice is – find a passion and pursue it – as fast or slow as you can or want to. Educate yourself. Learn something new everyday. You can’t go wrong.
Here are more photos from Hawaii that I haven’t posted yet, so I can share some more of my passion with you!
Our gorgeous hotel. This is the hallway with a little meeting area on each floor. The lobby was majestic, but with all the running around to/from places, I never got pics of the downstairs lobby. I will never forget that it smelled like coconut every time you walked in, though!
